A hugely experienced Sailor, Martin came to sailing and yacht racing in particular after very successful careers in motor-sport, rallying and offshore powerboat racing. Martin is involved widely in sail boat racing as a class measurer, race official, and Yacht Club Sailing Secretary. Martin will lead PYRA Race events, plus Day Sails and Sail Trim days.
Owain has raced successfully on all sorts of sail boats from Super yachts to Sonatas. He is a Sail Maker by trade, but has worked ‘part time’ with Poole Sailing for several years now. Owain comes with a guaranteed smile and a nice easy style. He will lead some Racing and Corporate Events on Addiction and Energy.
Peter qualified as an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor in the mid nineteen nineties and has worked as a full time professional sailor ever since. He has introduced many hundreds of students to the joys of sailing, cruising and racing in a variety of boats with a friendly and relaxed style that is all his own. Peter will instruct many of our RYA practical courses and Yachtmaster preparation weeks and also skipper his own boat ‘Merlin’ for Solent based inshore regattas and race series where he enjoys considerable success.
Rob Gibson, Poole Sailing’s Principal, has spent the best part of a lifetime handling small boats. He is an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and Examiner who has been teaching Boat Handling and Sailing techniques to many hundreds of students since 1992. His work has enabled him to cross oceans and sail in many parts of the world, and his books on the subject have been RYA ‘best sellers’ since publication. He is very active on the UK Yacht Racing circuit, sailing his racing yacht ‘Hope & Glory/UNICEF’ offshore, and ‘Addiction’ in corporate regattas.
Taz has worked on the water for some 15 years in roles ranging from Tug Crew, to Dinghy and Power Boat instructor, and Professional Yacht Captain. His range of experience has made him one of the most versatile and competent boat handlers instructing today. Taz will lead some PYRA Race events in his own laid back style and also provide an expert yacht delivery service.
Chris has enjoyed being on, and in, the water for more years than he cares to admit, cruising with his family and racing his trimaran from Poole Harbour. He is also a keen Wind Surfer and Paddle Boarder. When he is not running RYA practical courses for Poole Sailing he runs a Bare Boat Yacht Charter business running out of North East Mallorca.
Giles is a full time Teacher who has combined his professional skills with his passion for sailing and taught Dinghy and Yacht Sailing courses since the mid 1990’s. He will lead some weekend events for Poole Sailing and otherwise can be found racing his beloved Contessa 32.
Tim has sailed most of his life enjoying a great deal of success in the GP14 class before moving on to Yachts as a Corporate Racing Skipper. He will lead many weekend events on his own yacht, Harrier.
Andy has sailed many different sail boats over many miles including the delivery of his own boat “Meena” from Greece to the UK. He has also worked on the ‘dark side’ delivering large Motor yachts across Europe. While he will lead many weekend events he is also our resident expert in Electronic Navigation hardware and techniques.
James is a multi- watersports instructor who has taught Dinghy Sailing, paddle Boarding and Windsurfing including ‘foilers’ in his career. He will lead weekend events and day sails on his Elan 333, ‘Escapade’.
Josie qualified as a Yacht Master at age 18, one of the youngest ever. She then set about delivering yachts around the Med and through Suez to the Middle East. She qualified as a Cruising Instructor while working in the canary Islands before moving back to the UK. Josie regularly runs our Shorebased Navigation Classes and will appear on the water from time to time.
